Kansas City Zoo
Located in the historic and beautiful Swope Park, the Kansas City Zoological Park is nestled inside valleys and rolling hills in Kansas City, Missouri. An accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, the zoo opened in 1909 and has grown from a small building and 60 acres to a large, 202 acre zoo with over 1,300 animals. With the addition of the now-closed Sprint IMAX Theater, it became the first zoo to have an IMAX. In 2008, it was voted one of America's best zoos by The Intrepid Traveler, a travel publisher. It was ranked number one in the nation for its African animals, and among the top 10 for both Australian animals and pachyderms. Famed ape expert Jane Goodall has claimed the Kansas City Zoo has "one of the finest chimpanzee exhibits in North America."
